On November 13, 2025, The American Lawyer awarded Williams & Connolly three of their top honors: Law Firm of the Year, Litigation Department of the Year (General Litigation), and Best Client-Law Firm Team. Winners were announced at The American Lawyer Industry Awards at Cipriani's in New York City.
For the first time, The American Lawyer gave its Law Firm of the Year award jointly to nine law firms, including Williams & Connolly, Cooley, Clement & Murphy, and Munger, Tolles & Olson, and their clients Perkins Coie, Jenner & Block, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, and Susman Godfrey, for their challenges to the Administration’s executive orders that sought to punish law firms for taking cases and positions adverse to the Administration’s views.
Williams & Connolly also took home the award for Litigation Department of the Year, General Litigation, which recognizes the firm’s significant successes through 2024 and 2025, including its victory in obtaining a permanent injunction for Perkins Coie preventing enforcement of Executive Order 14230; a jury trial victory for Albertsons and SuperValu in a False Claims Act case; a bench trial victory for The Carlyle Group in litigation brought by minority shareholders alleging breaches of fiduciary duty and other claims; multiple wins in landmark biosimilar litigation concerning Regeneron’s market-leading product Eylea; and multiple victories before the U.S. Supreme Court.*
In addition, Williams & Connolly won Best Client-Law Firm Team for the firm’s partnership with CVS. This prestigious award honors a law firm and client that have demonstrated an exceptional relationship that transcends the normal attorney-client relationship. For W&C and CVS, the two have partnered on many dozens of legal matters over the last approximately 13 years, including the firm’s representation of CVS in cases large and small. In the last five years alone, the company has retained the firm to try at least five trials and arbitrations that have reached a final verdict or award. The other finalists for this award were several prestigious national and international law firms and their household-name clients.
